How I Teach the Letter b.
Freebie.
One thing many of my children struggle with is the direction of the letter b and the difference between the letters b and d. Well I have a solution, a very simple solution, many years ago when I was just a beginning teacher a very wise and older teacher shared her wisdom as she often did and how I loved this very wise lady, anyway she taught me bat then ball and I find it honestly really works. I prefer not to bring in a concept for d as then I feel it all gets too confusing. We just stick with b. If they can just remember bat then ball then HOORAY!
Freebie.
Poster also in black and white. |

First we do it we practise swinging the bat (cricket here but probably baseball for many) and then comes the ball over and over pretend in the classroom and outside with a real bat if you have time (they love it I hate to say it but especially the boys) this helps with the order i.e. bat first then ball.
(my apologies to my NZ, Aus and UK friends I did not have a clipart of a cricket bat but most schools usually do have a baseball bat.)
I have enclosed a poster colour and black and white plus a worksheet to reinforce the idea just check you print off the correct colour/color spelling.
Hope this helps and feedback would be great, followers even better, I really do love making products especially freebies.
You can download it for free at my TpT Store on the sidebar of this blog or find my Store Kindergarten Matters through the link HERE
Matching worksheet comes with both spellings of colour/color. |
