Magic Water Bottle Labels

Do you use Magic Water?  
I often find in times of crisis kids just need a little bit of attention, they may be tired, feeling a bit overwhelmed and just a little squirt or dab of magic water seems to soothe minor little bumps, ouches and clear up crocodile tears.  
I suppose it's a bit like a placebo for kids but if it works, why not?  

Simply print off a label, and glue onto a clean water bottle and you're ready to go.

PLEASE only use for very minor bumps and ouches, I always believe in erring on the side of caution with injuries especially bumps on the head.

Summer holidays are nearly over Downunder and I know many of you are busy setting up for 2019.

I made this quick little 1st Day Craft or use it as teachers gift and the cost - nothing.

Print on to card or paper colored/coloured or keep it on white paper and children decorate their own.  The shape is simple for little ones to cut their own.

Make into a necklace or glue onto a strip of cardboard and make it into a crown.

Hello friends, this is just a quick post to let you know I have popped the pages for Making Words - A fun and Simple Station in my Teachers Pay Teachers Store and best of all it is FREE

You can read all about it in an earlier post 

It can be used for magnetic letters, stamps, and letter tiles.

It's a beautiful sunny Saturday here I plan to spend the day by the pool finishing off some classroom labels getting them shop ready for our new school year.

Here's a peek they are not finished yet so I best get to work as school starts in just a couple of weeks.  

If you are on holidays enjoy the rest of your break and for our Northern Hemisphere friends hopefully, this little freebie idea may help ease those cold wintery days.

A very cute little craft Gingerbread House templates.

It includes a simple version for Kindergarten or even First Grade.

This template requires simple cutting and gluing.

I have included the above templates for older or more capable children as they require more intricate cutting and gluing skills.

Do your class always want to share their experiences at "News Time" rather than question the news giver? 

I always operate a Show and Tell or News Time so the class can share their news with the class and also as part of our Oral Language programme. One of the problems I always had with this is was that the audience all want to add their similar experiences at question time rather than ask a question about the news-givers experience.  
It honestly drives me crazy and I get tired of hearing myself ask "Is that a question?"

My solution word cards, I printed off cards with the words Who, What, Where, Why, When and How. I later added Was and Did (Did you like it? and Was it fun? Seem to be common questions.)

I place them in the middle of our Show and Tell circle and after the child is selected to ask their question the child simply grabs a card and uses this to focus their question.

 The bonus is they also very quickly learn to read and write these words.  

After a few weeks, I find you can throw those word cards or staple them on the wall somewhere.  I then explain to the class, how wonderful and clever they are and that I feel everyone now knows how to ask a question so we are going to now do this without the cards because they are so amazing and do you all think you can remember what a question is?  Nodding heads.  Do you think you can all remember which words to use when asking a question?  More nodding heads.  

I can assure you if someone dares to wander off the questioning path they will be politely questioned by fellow class members is that a question?

Are you celebrating the Royal Wedding?  
My girlfriends and I are having a wee Royal Wedding Party Bash with bubbles and cucumber sandwiches and more.  We are quite lucky down here in NZ as it will be Saturday night so the perfect time to toast the new couple.Anyway, to get into the spirit I thought I would make a couple of party props so I have made a couple of crowns.

and a Union Jack bunting to strewn around the table, the wall, the t.v. but you pop them where you like.  Use them to decorate your home, the staffroom or the classroom.

I grew up in Australia and I still remember having a big family sweep, we would go to my grandmother's house, all the aunties, uncles and cousins (there was a lot of us) and pull our horse's name from a hat.  (I am not sure how it worked and if all family members received a horse, but being a child I was of course, oblivious to all of this. 

 At school we would also always have a class sweep - imagine doing that today - anyway come Melbourne Cup race time, the teachers would wheel in the big old t.v. - well it wasn't old then and compared to nowadays it wasn't big at all but it was fat and heavy and on a tall stand with wheels.  We would all squish into a classroom and watch the big race.  I do remember winning the class sweep one year and if memory serves me right my horse was Gold and Black?

It was a such a special day not for the gambling but for the excitement and the rituals and the hats and getting together with my cousins and the anticipation of choosing your horse and of course, there would be cake.  

I still have a flutter on the big race every year and a glass of bubbles,  I choose the same numbers every year, because clearly I am no expert and I fear to not choose them now they would probably come up.

A Little about Phar Lap.

My dear old pop told me many moons ago that as Phar Lap raced during the Depression and was pretty much always a certain win he was adored by the people.  Maybe this is true I do not know, but I do know that parts of Phar Lap are on display all over the world 

His skeleton is on display in Wellington,  New Zealand at  Te Papa. 

His mounted hide is on display at the Melbourne Museum

and his heart at the National Museum of Australia in Canberra. 

His heart is said to be huge and hence why it is on display.

 I am not a gambler and I know gambling is a BIG problem but I just feel that The Melbourne Cup is a special day in Australia and maybe I am wrong but the odd flutter on a horse is ok?

Anyway, I made this little flip book to celebrate and to keep a part of our history alive and for our children to learn a little about the Melbourne Cup, because to me it is special.
