Ahoy there tomorrow is "Talk like a Pirate Day" - Wednesday 19 September
so have a little fun.

Make these cute little pirate boats with half a walnut, a little bit of play dough, a toothpick and get your kids to make their own flag.  Great for exploring floating and sinking and then of course you could write about the activity, graph the number that floated or sunk☹️.

Make a treasure map and label it.

Dress up wear a patch, a pirate hat or a even a hook and explore the "ar" family of words.

There really is so much you could do to have a fun day.

A Back To School Freebie

For all of our Northern Hemisphere friends heading back for
your new school year I have a wee gift just for you.

Down in NZ we have just started our 3rd term and are in the thick of winter.
I managed to sneak away for a little ski holiday in gorgeous Queenstown.
As well as skiing some of my favourite things to do are a lunch at Millbrook Resort or Amisfield Vineyard a wander through Arrowtown and a stroll through Queenstown.

I hardly took any photos but I have added a few below.

Lunch at Millbrook

Coronet Peak

Anyway more importantly I know those first few days in Kindergarten can be tricky so hence this is a simple little booklet that may be a help in your first few days of Kindergarten.

I thought I might use it as a quick and simple assessment, just to give me a snapshot of where everyone is.
But it also can be used as an aid  tool to teach and introduce simple skills such as name writing, alphabet identification, numbers, cutting and pasting, color identification, drawing, tracing and shape identification.
You could also use each page and expand each activity and use as a way to introduce a teaching point like scissor rules.

It's hard those few days, to keep everyone busy and happy and sometimes they just whip through something that you had hoped may take longer so print it off and use it as a just in case I need something extra.

Use it however you like, I hope it is helpful.

Simply print staple down the sides and cut in half to give you 2 booklets.
There are 7 activities.

The activities include,

Color identification

Name writing and identification of letters in name.

Tracing

AND

Age and numbers 1 to 10 tracing and writing.
Cutting and pasting.
Self and friend drawing
Draw.. What is in your lunchbox today?
1 to 1 matching shape matching.

This booklet is in US letter size paper with the spelling color.  I will duplicate in A4 paper with the spelling of colour but with holidaying, the beginning of term and other products on the go I felt that option could wait just a little while.

Head on over to my TPT store Kindergarten Matters and grab it for FREE HERE

Good Luck!

It's a long weekend and maybe you are a royalist or maybe not but whatever,
it's a day off and ain't nobody can complain about that.

I thought to myself it would be quite fun to do a bit of a "q" and queen focus
just to liven things up so I have made these few little activities.
We may even add a bit of royal dress up and read a few queen stories.
For art a queen portrait could be fun.

First of all a q crown - queen/crown - it works.

Also some writing, a simple write a sentence about the queen,
throw it in your writing corner

Post the weekend how about a nice weekend recount, I have popped in a plan/template for this.

And to finish it all off a little foldable reader focusing on "Here is the..."

Grab them for free HERE

Have a great weekend, mine will be spent sleeping in, on the side of a football field
and in front of the fire catching up on school stuff maybe with just a little bit of wine.

Add some orange and black paper and simply print, paint and glue to make this little leprechaun.

A little tip for those not so capable scissor cutters get them to colour in the middle of the buckle black.  Use the black paper to make a strip to sit under the buckle just make sure the strips are not wider then the buckle.  I was torn between whether to tear the paper for the hair or cut strips, in the end I pre cut little orange strips.  The thought of lots of children tearing paper sounded slightly chaotic.

We read "How to Catch a Leprechaun."by Adam Wallace and added a simple quote for each leprechaun.

And thats it!

Oops and I nearly forgot Grab it HERE

And while you are there take a sneak peek at my new
currently on sale @ 50% off for the first 48 hours.

Hope everyone down in my part of the world has had a great start to school.

We here in NZ are celebrating Waitangi Day so its another long weekend Woop

Woop! and the weather is just beautiful.  More Wooping!  finally summer has

arrived she's been just a wee bit slow this year.

There really is no better way to start the school year then with 2 short weeks.

Love, love a long weekend could we just have 4 day weeks all the time

everyone would be so much happier and rested its a no brainer really!

Anyway I am always thinking about new ways to get those alphabet sounds

stuck like firmly stuck like they are not going anywhere in my friends cute as

can be little heads and for some kids they need a lot more practise at this then

others. So help to introduce and reinforce beginning sounds with these little

packs.

"Spin and Dab"  or "Spin and Color/Colour" and you can give them a free trial

with my

Valentine's Day Free Sample.

Which really are very cute with the hearts but the normal sets have no hearts

just in case you were wondering which I am sure you weren't but I really

wanted to just clear that up.

Grab it HERE

It's just a fun little idea and simple for your kinders and you could pop it in your

Writing Centre use it as an early finisher activity or make them into their own

centre.  Use it as a game - first to finish.

There are 20 worksheets altogether and each worksheet explores 5 letters.

The letters are randomly grouped together in no particular order.

They come with lots of different cute clip art for each letter - except for x which

only had xray so just so you know x only has xray.

Choose if you prefer "Spin and Dab" and use bingo dabbers OR

My fav. "Spin and Colour/Color" well er it just takes a little bit longer to complete. As we down here spell colour with a u I tend to use a crayon instead of the word so they are always US/Aus/NZ and UK friendly.

The packs are exactly the same the only difference is Dab or Color/Colour so you probably do not want to buy both.

You can grab Spin and Dab Here

Happy Waitangi Day

"Happy Back to School!"

for all my Aussie and NZ fellow teachers, yes it's back to school down here and I really have had a very, very lazy summer break, hence my lack of blogging BUT I have been making a few school supplies so I did achieve something.  I also ate plenty, enjoyed many a lovely wine, caught up on sleep and just enjoyed my kids and hey thats pretty important.

It's been a funny old summer here in NZ and as per the normal now that school is going back the real hot weather has finally arrived.  There seems to be lots of talk about changing our summer holiday dates and look I don't know there is pros and cons for both. What do you think?

Anyway I have made a little Valentine's Day writing pack to pop into your Writing Centre.  It is all very simple to make so it is easy for little ones.  Cut or ask a very wonderful mother help - to cut up all the stamps and labels and pop them in containers all set to go.  The folding of the envelopes will be a lesson, I will blow one up to A3, they are very simple though and depending on how it all goes we may do a little - "How to address an Envelope" lesson but this will depend on how we are sailing along it could be a big ask. I will also be quite strict on wastage of these.  Pop out a mailbox and add a class list to your writing centre to help with names and thats it.
A fun little addition to your writing centre, or even just aValentine's Day activity.

It is for free in my TPT Store or click here

Click the green star just under my store name to follow me and to receive updates on freebies and new products and follower special freebies.

All my products are currently on sale for 20%.

There are 6 cards - 2 per A4 sheet.

2 options of stamps.

2 options of envelope templates

and finally 2 options of labels

These are kind of optional but I thought they were kind of fun.

Oh my it's nearly Halloween and I just realised I haven't shared my Halloween Freebie Pack.  Halloween is becoming more popular down our way and I know it is still very divided on those who are anti Halloween and those who like and celebrate and always make sure they have a bowl of lollies ready and waiting.  But honestly my thoughts are if it makes school and life (for that matter) just that little bit more fun and interesting then I say why not?  Bring on the trick-or-treaters they are always welcome at my house.

And look more importantly if it encourages more writing, fantastic stories, more reading and creativity then I'm in!

This pack icludes some templates and ideas to help your little ones with some different writing formats.

Theres a couple of Opinion Writing templates.

A couple of simple Write a Sentence about

A sample from my
